Local marketing specialist Liz Flatters, from Staying in Touch, met Wendi Caplan-Carroll at the recent Joondalup Business Association Lunch. Wendi was visiting Perth from New York and the topic of her presentation was “Creating Customers through Online Social Networking”.
With Staying in Touch specialising in website development and online marketing, (as well as branding, business stationery and brochures), the pair had a lot to talk about!
“We found an instant synergy,” said Liz, “and have already reconnected on numerous topics – via Facebook of course!”
“It was interesting to hear Wendi share case studies on social network marketing from the US. While she mentioned that the percentage using social media are similar, my observation is that few local small businesses, or their customers, are using it to the same depth that we hear of in the US.”
“While we receive many enquiries for websites there is not as much of a demand for Facebook Business Pages,” Liz continued. “It would appear businesses undervalue the benefit of a professional Facebook marketing strategy and tend to treat it as an extension of their personal page, with disappointing results. Hearing some of the stories from the US has certainly inspired a number of local businesses to take another look at their online marketing. Like Wendi, I would encourage businesses to give it a go – there’s some exciting opportunities ahead for those prepared to embrace it.”
