Local leadership skills recognised
Local business woman and Connolly resident, Liz Flatters, has been recognised for her leadership skills, contribution to the community and career success to date by winning the BPW “Woman of the Year” award.
Finalists competed in a recent awards night, at the BPW (International Federation of Business & Professional Women) Western Australia state conference held in Bunbury, by presenting a speech on the theme “What influences the choices women make in 2008”.
BPW is an international organisation that educates and informs women, undertaking research and projects aimed at making a positive difference for women. BPW lobbies governments at all levels including at the United Nations, where it holds Special Category Status, on current and emerging issues of importance to women.
Membership in BPW also provides opportunities for business and professional women to network, access mentors, develop skillsets and participate in forums to discuss issues of concern with likeminded and diverse women.
Liz Flatters is a member and immediate past president of her local club, BPW Joondalup.
“The BPW Woman of the Year award acknowledges a woman for her BPW and career achievements as well as recognising her potential,” said BPW WA President Arlene Quinn. “It is awarded to a woman who is both achieving success personally and who is committed to raising the status of women through her work with BPW.”
Liz Flatters runs a small business with her husband Brett, called Staying in Touch – a marketing and graphic design consultancy. Their aim is to help make their clients’ businesses more successful through effective branding, business stationery, brochures and website development.
As the award winner, in addition to her role as a BPW WA ambassador, Liz will now represent Western Australia when she competes at the next BPW Australia national conference in 2010.
