It was once thought that, with the advent of websites, brochures would no longer be necessary. This hasn't happened and although websites are an important part of the marketing mix, for many businesses brochures are still a valuable marketing tool.
The message you want to communicate will determine the layout, amount of text, style, size and number of images. The format can often depend on delivery - will it be handed out at an event, delivered personally, accompany a submission, placed in a brochure stand, posted in an envelope or distributed as unsolicited mail?
The message and delivery method will also affect the number of pages; whether and how it is folded; paper weight; the finish i.e. laminated, varnished, stapled; and the finished size.
